Formwork is the mould wet concrete is poured into — get it wrong and the structure is wrong. This week covers setting out, building and bracing forms for columns, beams and slabs, and the part most people underestimate: when and how it is safe to strike them.

What you will learn
Five days on the tools, not five days in a chair.
- Reading dimensions and setting out lines and levels for columns, beams and slabs
- Cutting and assembling panels, soffits and sides square and to size
- Props, bracing, ties and clamps — keeping a form in position under load
- Checking plumb, level and alignment before the pour, and what to watch during it
- Preventing grout loss, bulging and movement
- Striking times and sequence, and why striking early is the most dangerous thing on the job
- Cleaning, oiling and stacking panels so they can be used again
Safety on this trade
Working at height, harnesses and edge protection, safe use of power tools, load paths, and never striking a form before it is released.

Three assessments, in Sinhala or English.

Trade skills

Real site knowledge and safety: working at height, damaged power tools, concrete mixes, reinforcement, striking formwork, tiling preparation, and knowing when to ask for training instead of attempting an untrained task.
After the course
Pass, and you are certified. Certified candidates are shortlisted, and our in-house placement agency submits that shortlist to an overseas employer. The employer makes the final selection — we do not promise an outcome, we prepare you for one.
